Etisalat launched standalone (SA) 5G in the United Arab Emirates, claiming this to be the first SA 5G in the Middle East and North Africa.
In a statement, the e&-owned operator said SA 5G delivers additional capacity and lower latency which enables various applications.
The operator detailed applications such as massive machine-to-machine communication solutions, real-time device-to-device networking, ultra-reliable, low-latency functionality for autonomous devices and next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Commercial customers will be able to tap into high-speed connectivity which enables 4K streaming, cloud gaming and high-quality audio streaming. Etisalat pitched its SA 5G fixed wireless access service as an alternative to fixed broadband to businesses.
Etisalat launched its non-standalone 5G network in 2018.
