Liquid targets home-based African high-speed internet market

A reminder that African connectivity is no longer entirely about mobile phones comes in the form of an announcement from Liquid Networks, part of technology solutions group Liquid Intelligent Technologies, which has unveiled a high-speed internet product called Liquid Home.

The company says its high-speed internet is “perfect for everyone in your family, whatever their internet needs” and adds that whatever the requirement the offering has them covered, be it fibre to the home or wireless. Liquid insists that the service offers stable, secure and speedy connectivity at a price to suit every budget.

Liquid says it will ensure that customers in the eight countries where the service has been launched – Zambia, Uganda, DRC, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Rwanda – can meet their daily digital requirements at home. 

Signing up involves heading to the company’s website (where customers will be redirected to the service in their own country) or walking into a local Liquid Home store and selecting the package required. The company promises “No longer long queues or long bills,” and adds, “customers benefit from access to Liquid Home’s FibroniX or WibroniX solutions, depending on their customised needs.”

Technical details are not easy to find. However, WibroniX is a WTTH (wireless to the home/enterprise) internet connection using LTE technology and FibroniX is FTTH (fibre to the home/enterprise) internet connection using optic fibre technology.

The addressable market is also not mentioned, although Liquid Intelligent Technologies’ own fibre broadband network covers over 100,000 kilometres – and it’s far from the only fibre provider in a growing market.
