The highly diversified Peruvian telecommunications company Optical Networks has announced plans to add two more data centres to its presence in the market. They will be in the city of Lima.
The reason for the expansion, according to the BNamericas website, is that the two new local data centres are needed to meet a growing demand for business services.
But that’s not all. The company has announced plans for another data centre within Lima Province. In fact it’s already being built, with a start date before the end of this year. Yet another facility, for recovery purposes, will also be built in Lima.
Augusto Cuadros, Optical Networks Data Centre and Cloud Business Unit Manager, added that his company may invest in smaller edge data centres in the future, and is evaluating modular, prefabricated and stacked container models.
No specifications of any of these units have so far been made available. However, Optical Networks currently operates three data centres in Lima, with additional facilities in Tacna, a city in southern Peru, and Arequipa, also in the south and the country’s second most populated city.
Optical Networks certainly has a diverse portfolio after more than 20 years in the Peruvian market. It serves the business sector offering business connectivity, managed services, corporate telephony, cyber security for companies, cloud services, thermographic cameras and of course data centres.
