At the 8th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2022), Huawei unveiled its Fiber to the Room (FTTR) solution with an industry-leading centralized Wi-Fi access network (C-WAN) architecture.
In addition to greatly reducing network interference and conflicts, the architecture meets F5.5G network requirements such as ultra-high bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and multiple connections, as well as helps operators quickly develop services and provide whole-house gigabit Wi-Fi experiences.
In the gigabit era, homes are becoming digital and smart, and as such are assuming more production functions in addition to entertainment. Online education/office, live commerce, 8K HD movies, in-depth entertainment (VR/cloud gaming), and whole-house intelligence are experiencing explosive growth, requiring networks with high bandwidth, low latency, and high concurrency. Against this backdrop, more and more homes and small and micro enterprises choose multi-AP networking for indoor network coverage. However, as the number of APs increases, their mutual interference intensifies. As a result, the actual network rate is low and devices may even go offline. Worse yet, in concurrent access scenarios, typical issues such as lagging and delayed roaming handover frequently occur, affecting user experiences.
Based on the C-WAN architecture, Huawei's FTTR solution coordinates Wi-Fi resources in a unified manner and enables FTTR devices to function as one, achieving optimal performance, ultimate experience, and simplified O&M.
Optimal performance: The innovative dynamic Wi-Fi management (DWM) algorithm is used to schedule and allocate Wi-Fi resources in a unified manner, eliminating interference and resource conflicts. Compared with traditional networking, Huawei's FTTR solution improves the network throughput by 50%. What's more, the intelligent bandwidth adjustment algorithm is used to coordinate the bandwidth of each FTTR device based on the C-WAN architecture. A maximum of 128 loT devices can work at the same time, four times more than the industry average.
Ultimate experience: To deliver smooth roaming experiences in large houses, the unique seamless roaming coordinate network (SRCN) algorithm and C-WAN architecture are used, providing the "one terminal, one policy" roaming. When a user terminal moves from one room to another, Wi-Fi signals can be intelligently, quickly, and accurately switched, ensuring uninterrupted video calls and mobile gaming.
Simplified O&M: More than 100 applications — such as online courses, videos, esports, live streaming, and video calls — can be intelligently identified. In addition, Huawei's FTTR solution supports unified collection of Wi-Fi network data. Through centralized big data analytics, home networks can be remotely visualized, managed, and maintained, ensuring gigabit experiences for users.
During UBBF 2022 in Bangkok, Huawei and operators jointly showcased a range of key capabilities of the Huawei FTTR solution for homes and small and micro enterprises. On display included OptiXstar series products, Wi-Fi speed test, 8K over FTTR, transparent fiber deployment, automatic network planning, and high-concurrency live streaming, fully demonstrating the potential of the Huawei FTTR solution in delivering a premium digital experience to home users.
