What is described as Africa’s largest satellite cellular backhaul network is about to extend its coverage.
Satellite networking technology, solutions and services company Gilat Satellite Networks has announced that Africa's largest satellite cellular backhaul network is extending its coverage to a dozen countries in Africa. Africa Mobile Networks (AMN), whose mission is to build mobile network base stations serving rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa that have no existing service, has deployed Gilat hubs and placed additional orders for Gilat cellular backhaul terminals to serve multiple Tier-1 operators in Africa.
AMN will be furthering the reach of its network with Gilat’s SkyEdge II-c Capricorn VSATs, reaching more of the population in Africa.
The SkyEdge II-c Capricorn family consists of high-performance VSATs ideal for vertical markets that demand high throughput and high-speed services, such as corporate networking, 3G and 4G/LTE cellular backhauling, IP trunking and mobility. Designed to work with high throughput satellites, Capricorn’s S2X-enabled adaptive transmission technologies maximize performance, improve service availability and reduce operational costs.
For 3G and LTE cellular backhauling, Capricorn includes Gilat’s patented cellular data acceleration technology that enables full LTE speeds for cellular handheld devices using TDMA and SCPC transmission.
Gilat says it is working closely with AMN to further expand cellular backhaul reach in additional sites and regions throughout the coming years, including migration to 4G as the requirement for data communication rises.
