India’s IT and electronics minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar denied the government is planning to force smartphone makers to enable users to uninstall bloatware apps, and enforce mandatory checks, describing the story broke by Reuters as “plain wrong”.
In a tweet, Chandrasekhar slammed the article from the news agency stating it was “based on lack of understanding” and “unfettered creative imagination”, in regard to a consultation process between the ministry and the telecoms industry.
Yesterday, Reuters reported the Indian government was planning to unveil laws to remove bloatware or pre-installed apps, which come in the form of web browsers and payment apps, which are apparently weak points to be exploited by nations such as China. The majority of popular phone brands have pre-installed apps.
The minister added the government is 100% committed to enabling businesses and focused on manufacturing US$300 billion worth of electronics goods by 2026.
